Every time you see the Trans Am with no grilles and missing front side spoilers, those scenes were filmed in California after the main filming wrapped up in Georgia.
All California filming was done in December, 1976 based on 2 things:
- There are Christmas decorations at the Shell gas station chase scene (note the "Seasons Greetings" message in the window and there are Christmas lights on the roof)
- The 2017 interview with Susie Ewing (Hot Pants Hilliard) where she stated she was contacted about the movie while at Jack Cassidy's Funeral. That was December 16, 1976.

My conspiracy theory is that this was filmed AFTER all the Trans Ams were supposedly "crushed" in Georgia. I believe that this Trans Am was one used for close up filming of the actors and the grilles were removed for towing. You can even see the gold stripe on the bumper is rubbed off in the same place as this behind the scenes picture.
